Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retirement

Web Desk — Virat Kohli has announced his retirement from T20 cricket after the Indian team won the ICC-T20 World Cup final against South Africa on Saturday.

Kohli scored 76 off 59 deliveries in the final and was declared player of the match. The star batter said this was going to be his last T20 World Cup, adding that time had come for the next generation to take over.

The former Indian captain’s brilliant inning was pivotal in India’s 177-run target as they lost three early wickets in the powerplay.

Kohli had tears of joy after the last delivery of the match as India won the T20 World Cup after 17 years. It was under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni that India won their first trophy in 2007.

He said it was a now-or-never kind of situation, adding that the announcement of the tournament being his last T20 game was an “open secret.”

Anushka Sherma’s husband said that he would have announced retirement even if they had lost the final. “It is difficult to hold emotions back and feels that it is going to sink in later.”
