Web Desk — Former Pakistan cricket team captain, Azhar Ali, has been appointed as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’s new Head of Youth Development following a thorough recruitment process.
This appointment expands Azhar’s role, including his position as a Men’s National Selection Committee member.
Azhar Ali Cricket Career
Azhar, a prominent figure in Pakistan cricket, began his career in the 2002 ICC U19 Cricket World Cup before transitioning to the national team. From 2010 to 2022, he earned 97 Test caps and 53 ODI appearances throughout his distinguished career. Azhar also captained the national team in nine Tests and 31 ODIs, playing a pivotal role in Pakistan’s victorious 2017 ICC Champions Trophy squad.

In his new role as Head of Youth Development, Azhar will be responsible for shaping the future of Pakistan cricket. His key duties will include designing and implementing youth development strategies, strengthening grassroots cricket structures, collaborating with regional cricket associations, and enhancing age-group programs. Additionally, he will play a vital role in the PCB’s Pathways Programme by mentoring emerging players and organizing seminars focused on off-field development.
On his appointment, Azhar expressed his excitement and honor to take on the new challenge, citing his personal experience rising through age-group ranks and playing extensive club and domestic cricket. “I understand the critical role grassroots development plays in shaping future stars,” he said. “We aim to identify promising talent and equip them with the necessary tools to succeed at the highest level.”
