“PTI Leadership Surprised by Imran Khan’s Civil Disobedience Call: Internal Dissent Grows”

Imran Khan civil disobedience call
  • Surprise Announcement: PTI chairman Imran Khan’s call for civil disobedience caught the party leadership off guard, as most leaders found it impractical and untimely.
  • Leadership Reservations: Senior leaders, including prominent figures like Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Salman Akram Raja, expressed concerns over the decision, which was announced without consulting the leadership.
  • Practical Challenges: Leaders argue that such a move is not feasible, citing challenges like overseas remittances and the potential disqualification of parliamentarians if they participate.

Web Desk — Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan’s unexpected call for civil disobedience has sparked internal dissent within the party’s leadership. According to sources, many leaders have raised objections in internal WhatsApp group discussions, labeling the call as impractical and poorly timed.

The party leadership, including senior figures like PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, reportedly learned about the decision from Imran Khan’s post on “X” (formerly Twitter).

“This is not doable,” said one insider, explaining that neither overseas Pakistanis will halt remittances to their families, nor will citizens refuse to pay electricity or gas bills. The source also pointed out that PTI parliamentarians face potential disqualification if they engage in such actions.

Leaders have expressed frustration over recent decision-making processes, including the November 24 protest call, which was similarly announced without consulting party members. Despite being keen to discuss the matter with Imran Khan, senior leaders have faced restrictions in meeting their jailed leader.

When asked, senior PTI leader Ali Muhammad Khan stated that the party leadership plans to meet with Imran for further instructions while the committee constituted by the chairman begins its work. However, dissatisfaction persists, with some leaders arguing that ill-advised decisions are harming both the party and its founder.
