Web Desk — Amid rising pneumonia cases in the province, Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab Mohsin Naqvi has announced the suspension of classes for grade one and below students for one week.
In an emergency meeting at Lahore Children’s Hospital on Wednesday, the schools have also been directed to abolish the morning assembly as well till January 31. Naqvi said, eight out of 10 children are suffering from pneumonia while urging the children and the elderly to be vaccinated against the disease and use warm clothes for protection from extreme cold.
It is pertinent to mention that educational activities resumed on 1st January in schools across the province after the provincial government decided not to extend the winter vacations.
The winter vacations in Punjab commenced on December 18, 2023 and schools were set to reopen on Jan 1. Later, the Punjab government, owing to cold weather, extended the vacations till Jan 9.
