Imran Khan Terminates Talks With Govt; Barrister Gohar

Imran Khan terminates talks with Govt

Web Desk – The founder of PTI, Imran Khan, has terminated ongoing negotiations with the government.

While speaking to the media, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan stated that the government was supposed to form a commission within seven days. Still, no judicial commission has been established regarding the events of May 9 and November 26. Therefore, he is announcing the end of the negotiations on behalf of Imran Khan.

Barrister Gohar further mentioned that they wanted the talks to continue and for matters to progress, but political differences may prevent the ice from melting. Sadly, there has been no announcement from the government regarding the formation of a judicial commission to date.

PTI Chairman stated that they will continue their struggle by the constitution and law, and will work for the independent judiciary and against the 26th amendment.

Barrister Gohar also noted that the founder of PTI had already said they are not waiting for any foreign help and will begin their struggle in cooperation with all political parties.

Yesterday, the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub, also stated that if the government does not announce the judicial commission, the negotiations will not progress.

PTI’s Demands

In its written submission to the government’s negotiation committee, PTI outlined its key demands, stating that the proceedings of both inquiry commissions should be transparent and accessible to the general public and media.

The party also emphasized its intent to identify the political prisoners arrested following the events of May 9, November 24–27, or any other political incident that occurred elsewhere.

PTI presented a total of 22 primary demands to the government, specifically highlighting five major points related to the formation of two inquiry commissions.

First Commission

The first commission should conduct a thorough investigation into the legality of the events surrounding the arrest of Imran Khan on May 9, 2023. It should also probe the legality of his arrest process and those responsible for the break-in at the Islamabad High Court — the location from which Khan was apprehended — by the Rangers and police forces.

The commission should investigate the incidents across the country following Khan’s arrest, particularly how groups of individuals were able to access high-security sites where property damage occurred. CCTV footage from locations where the damage occurred should be reviewed, and if the footage is unavailable, the reasons for its absence should be determined.

The commission should also look into how individuals arrested in connection with the May 9 events were detained and subsequently released, as well as the conditions surrounding their custody.

Second Commission

The second commission should investigate the events from November 24–27, 2024, in Islamabad, particularly the protests led by KP CM Gandapur and Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi. PTI demanded an inquiry into whether live ammunition and other forms of physical violence were used against the protesters during these days.

The inquiry should determine who ordered the use of live ammunition and excessive force against protesters and who was responsible for the disproportionate use of force.

The commission should also reveal the number of deaths, injuries, and missing persons resulting from the November protests.

Additionally, the commission should assess the state of CCTV recordings at hospitals and medical facilities in Islamabad during that period. It should investigate whether any records were tampered with, and if so, under whose authority this occurred. The inquiry should also determine if hospitals were prevented from releasing information about the fatalities and injuries.
