Web Desk — Azad Kashmir High Court on Tuesday disqualified Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas in a contempt case.
The court charged him with using a ‘threatening tone’ against the judiciary. The clips in which the ousted premier could be seen using threatening language against the judiciary were played during the proceeding.
Ilyas is the first premier in AJK history to have been ousted on contempt charges by the court. Now Ilyas, who belongs to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) cannot contest for any public office in the future. The punishment was upheld till the rising of the court.
AJK’s Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Abdul Rasheed Sulehria has been directed by the court to hold polls for a new prime minister.
