KABUL: (Web Desk) Finally the US forces that invaded Afghanistan in broad daylight 20 years ago had to leave the country on the dark night of 31 August – the deadline Taliban gave to the foreign forces for withdrawal.
Centcom chief Gen McKenzie said the plan was changed keeping in mind the security situation in Kabul. He said the Taliban cooperated with the US for the latter’s withdrawal. Gen McKenzie added that the Taliban had been asked not to intervene in the US withdrawal or there would be serious consequences.
The Taliban took full control of the Kabul airport as the last flight with US soldiers on board took off from Kabul airport. Taliban soldiers started aerial firing outside Kabul airport to express their victory.
The Taliban had already announced that they would not extend the deadline for the withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan.

Pentagon has confirmed that the withdrawal of US forces has been completed from Afghanistan. However, the Pentagon did not disclose where the last flight carrying US troops was headed.
Taliban leadership declared full victory in Afghanistan as the withdrawal of foreign forces comes to an end.

Briefing on the situation US Foreign Secretary Antony Blinken said the US troops completed Afghanistan withdrawal under the constant threat of terrorism. He said more than one hundred and fifty thousand people were safely evacuated from Afghanistan.
Blinken added that the US will remain its counter-terrorism capability intact in the region.
US President Joe Biden will take the nation into confidence on the issue today.
