Taliban Leader Praises Twitter’s ‘Free-Speech’ Policy

Taliban Praise Twitter

Web Desk — A prominent Taliban leader has praised Twitter owner Elon Musk’s freewheeling approach to the platform’s handling of censorship.

Senior Taliban leader Anas Haqqani said that Twitter had two major advantages over rival social media platforms after the launch of Meta-Owned Threads.

Haqqani tweeted that Twitter’s first privilege is freedom of speech and the second one is the public nature & credibility of Twitter. He further said that Twitter didn’t have an intolerant policy like Meta and that other platforms couldn’t replace it.

Anas Haqqani is the son of a famed anti-Russian mujahideen fighter turned Taliban Jalaluddin Haqqani. He is one of the movement’s youngest leaders.

Haqqani’s praise of Twitter drew angry remarks from some users who noted that the Taliban don’t give their own citizens the right to freedom of speech.

The Taliban government in Afghanistan uses Twitter as a major vehicle for announcements. Ministers and departments have their official Twitter accounts. It is interesting to note that none of the Taliban leaders has so far paid for the blue tick.
