Web Desk — A Pakistani woman Bushra Ali Shah, 35, performed Haj alone as Saudi government has removed the guardian or ‘mehram’ rule aside.
The Haj Ministry has officially allowed women of all ages to perform Haj without having a male guardian, also known as mehram.
Earlier women were not allowed to go for Haj without the company of a male relative or guardian commonly called as mehrem.
The decision is part of social reforms being rolled out in the Kingdom by Crown Prince Muhammed bin Salman.
Bushra Shah says by doing Haj on a historical occasion is like realising a childhood dream.
Shah was among the 60,000 pilgrims chosen to perform Haj this year. Her husband Ali Murtaza, said he strongly encouraged his wife to go for Haj alone.
Another woman Marwa Shaker, 42-year old Egyptian, also performed Haj alone. She said, “Haj without guardian is a miracle.”
