PARIS: (Web Desk) Scientists including the World Health Organization (WHO) experts have concluded that despite the threat of Delta, “booster doses for the general population are not appropriate at this stage in the pandemic.”
A report published in The Lancet says vaccines are effective enough at preventing severe Covid-19 and that there is no need for the masses to be given a booster dose.
Some countries have already started offering extra doses over fears of the dangerously contagious Delta variant compelling the WHO to appeal to the rich countries to supply the extra vaccine doses to the poor countries where millions have yet to receive their first jab.
Ana-Maria Henao-Restrepo, the lead author of the report published in The Lancet, said vaccine doses should be prioritized to the people around the world still waiting for a jab.
She said, “If vaccines are deployed where they do the most good, they could hasten the end of the pandemic by inhibiting further evolution of variants.”
The UN health agency plans every country to vaccinate at least 10 percent of its population by the end of this month and at least 40 percent by the end of this year.
