Web Desk – Microsoft, the renowned American technology company, has unveiled a $3 billion investment in India to expand its Azure Cloud and Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities.
According to Reuters, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella revealed that the company will invest $3 billion to boost Azure Cloud and AI in India, which will double the company’s investment and lead to a reduction in prices.
A spokesperson from Microsoft stated that the investment will take place over the next two years, aiming to increase the ability of Indian citizens to use AI.
This announcement is part of a broader commitment by Microsoft, as it also revealed an $80 billion investment in AI data centers for fiscal year 2025, marking the company’s largest investment in India to date.
Satya Nadella, speaking at a conference in Bangalore, highlighted that Microsoft employs over 20,000 people in 10 cities across India. The company’s goal is to empower local consumers and citizens by enhancing their capabilities.
He also noted the critical role of India’s developer community in helping connect AI-based projects to GitHub Copilot, an AI tool. India is the second-largest country on GitHub after the U.S., and efforts are ongoing to make it the largest by 2028.
Further emphasizing the importance of India, Nadella revealed that Microsoft plans to train 10 million citizens in AI by 2030, building on the 2.4 million AI trainees from last year.
India remains a vital market for Microsoft, with senior company officials, including the head of Advanced Micro Devices, having visited India and made promises of significant investments.
Satya Nadella, who hails from India, is highly popular in the country. Like other tech company leaders, he is admired for his leadership.
The significance of his popularity was evident during Microsoft’s AI tour, where a large crowd of Indian citizens gathered in Bangalore for his program.
