Web Desk — Social media users gave intense reaction to Federal Energy Minister Hammad Azhar’s challenge to prominent anchor Shahzeb Khanzada to discuss Pakistan’s LNG and gas issues “moderated by a neutral anchor”.
The minister tweeted on Friday, “Let people see the facts without continual interruptions, volume controls, or teleprompters.”
Azhar’s tweet went viral, but not for the reasons he expected. Over 15,000 likes in a little over 24 hours, it has been retweeted close to 4,000 times, and Twitterati are having a field day.
He was sarcastically told, “focus on the gas that lights up the stove; debate doesn’t heat water.”.
Another made some unflattering comparisons and questioned the minister’s maturity.
Abbas Nasir, a veteran journalist, laughed loudly as well.
“Bhai, evidence is in the eating. No gas=severe incompetence. Nothing to debate,” he tweeted.
The majority of people trolled the minister, but a few did come to his defense, led by what has been called Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s troll army.
It should be noted here that that the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) published a report last month (The State of Industrial Report 2021). It stated that Pakistan’s power sector’s performance isn’t up to the mark. Shahzeb Khanzada used the report as a reference in his TV show (Aj Shahzeb Khanzada Ke Sath) and questioned the government about the delay in the purchase of LNG.
