Gladiator 2 Is Coming With A New Star Paul Mescal; Ridley Scott

Web Desk — The ‘Gladiator’ fans should finally take a sigh of pleasure as Ridley Scott has announced Gladiator’s sequel as his new project. The long-awaited sequel of Gladiator is finally coming after almost 23 years. The epic Roman historical drama was released in 2000.

As the latest reports suggest, Ridley Scott (85) is working on finalizing the cast for the sequel. According to The Sun, shooting for the long-awaited sequel will reportedly begin in May with filming locations already selected for Ouarzazate, Morocco. A source, not confirmed yet, has also hinted that the sequel could be ‘ready’ as early as 2024.

Details regarding Gladiator’s sequel plot have remained locked so tightly that not even a single line is out yet. However, it is presumed that Gladiator’s next installment may revolve around Lucius Verus, Roman Empress Lucilla’s son and the nephew of Joaquin Phoenix’s tyrant character Commodus. Maximus saved him in the first film.

“I’m already having [the next] Gladiator written now. So when I’ve done Napoleon, Gladiator will be ready to go,” Ridley Scott told Empire magazine.

The original epic starred Russell Crowe as former Roman general Maximus. Released in 2000, Gladiator garnered an impressive 11 Oscar nominations and five wins including Best Picture and Best Actor for Russell.
