Is Tesla’s Solar Roof Better Than Traditional Solar Panel?

Tesla Solar Roof, The Sleekest solar option

Web Desk — Companies that deal in solar energy have expanded their business worldwide as people are rapidly moving towards alternative sources of electricity. In the United States, more people are installing solar panes on their roofs because of the falling prices, according to a report in CNet.

World’s famous carmaker brand Tesla’s entry into the growing market of renewable energy has made it the largest solar installer in the U.S. In 2016, Tesla purchased SolarCity in order to expand its solar installation capacity.

In order to make it easier and more accessible for its clients, Tesla has introduced ‘Solar RoofTops’ in the market. The latest induction can be a better option for people who don’t want to see large setups on the top of their houses.

Tesla Solar Roof: What’s New?

Instead of the traditional solar system, Tesla Solar Roofs consist of shingles that combine regular and photovoltaic technology. Interestingly, your roof looks normal as no one can notice any major change in the house’s appearance.

Where Can Tesla Solar Roofs Be Installed?

Single-layer roof designs are ok but metal, clay, wood, and architectural shingles will have to be replaced. Those who have flat roofs are recommended to go for other renewable energy sources.

Roof Size?

Solar Roof comes in more than four sizes. It has a maximum output of 71.67 watts, according to Electrek, which obtained the specs for it. Because of this, the Solar Roof can be more specifically tailored to your energy needs.

Warranty

The Tesla Solar Roof comes with a 25-year warranty against defects in the shingles as well as a 25-year warranty against leaks. You’re also covered by a production warranty: Your Solar Roof will produce 95% of its rated power after five years, and 85% after 25 years. The warranty is generally more favorable than those offered by solar panel manufacturers.

Powrwall Battery

Tesla offers its own Powerwall battery. The Powerwall can hold 13.5 kilowatt-hours of energy and can power most appliances, though additional batteries may be needed for 240-volt appliances like air conditioners. The amount of energy you use can affect how long 13.5 kilowatt-hours last. During the day, the Solar Roof will provide power and possibly recharge your Powerwall.

You can install Powerwall batteries indoors or outdoors. They’re 6 inches deep, 2.5 feet wide and almost 4 feet tall.

Using Tesla’s slick-looking app, you can monitor your energy production and usage.
