Pakistan launch Digital Dera with Chinese collaboration

Web Desk — With inspiration from Chinese agro-based innovative technologies and techniques, China’s digital farming and smart agriculture practices will spur Pakistan’s agricultural growth. An innovative group of young Pakistani agri-tech entrepreneurs has pioneered the “Digital Dera” project in the Pakpattan district, located around 148 km from Lahore.

A technologically advanced project called “Digital Dera” aims to empower farmers with cutting-edge agriculture solutions and assist them in creating smart communities. In an interview with Gwadar Pro, founder of “Digital Dera” and co-founder of a Think Tank called “Agriculture Republic”, Aamer Hayat Bhandara pointed out that data, information, advisory, and technology are essential in maximizing agricultural growth.

Although Pakistan has ideal weather and fertile land, the lack of modern agricultural techniques prevents Pakistan from achieving the standard yield. In addition, he urged the use of sensors to help farmers make accurate decisions regarding their crops. Since China leads the world in technological innovation, he suggested that Chinese companies aligned with modern agriculture could digitally equip Pakistani farmers by transferring technology of agriculture drones, geo-tagging, satellite imagery data collection, electric tractors, and human resource development.

Govt To Boost Cement Capacity Utilization

“Digital Dera” can easily be replicated across the country, he said when discussing its impact and prospects. In addition, he hoped to work with China on agriculture technology transfer and capacity building.

Machine vision and artificial intelligence are used by the Farmland Digital Integrated Management System to monitor plant diseases and insect pests. Artificial intelligence technologies such as computer vision, picture recognition, and deep learning are used to predict agricultural production, control pests, and handle other challenges. In order to ensure Pakistan’s food security, farmers can directly replicate the advanced Chinese agricultural technology.

According to a study conducted by Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited in 2020, Pakistan is far behind other countries in terms of crop yields. The study emphasizes the use of technology to improve crop yields.

Traditional farms are much less efficient and sustainable than digital farms, which use new technologies such as data science, digital communication channels, automation, and sensors. Therefore, more and more farmers have access to improved data, enabling them to make better decisions to increase output and reduce waste. Through the use of modern technology and digitization of the country’s agriculture regime, Pakistan can improve food security, reduce foreign exchange by lowering food imports and increase the income of millions of farmers across the country.
