Web Desk — President-elect Donald Trump issued a stern warning to Hamas on Monday, threatening significant retaliation if hostages are not released before his inauguration on January 20, 2025.
The statement follows unsuccessful diplomatic efforts by outgoing President Joe Biden’s administration to broker an agreement that would halt Israel’s war in Gaza and secure the release of hostages taken 14 months ago.
“If the hostages are not released before January 20, 2025, the date I proudly assume Office as President of the United States, there will be ALL HELL TO PAY in the Middle East, and for those responsible who committed these atrocities against humanity,” Trump declared on his Truth Social platform.
He vowed, “Those responsible will face consequences more severe than anything seen in U.S. history. RELEASE THE HOSTAGES NOW!”
Trump has consistently expressed unwavering support for Israel and criticized Biden’s more measured approach. He also reiterated his commitment to pursuing impactful deals on the global stage.
The crisis began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched the deadliest attack in Israel’s history, killing 1,208 people, predominantly civilians. They took away 251 individuals during the assault, with 97 still held in Gaza, including 35 Israeli army officers believed to be deceased.
Israel’s military response has claimed 44,429 lives in Gaza, according to figures from Gaza’s health ministry, which the United Nations deems credible.
