Web Desk — Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman, Gohar Ali Khan, has stated that only PTI founder Imran Khan could reconsider the planned protest on November 24, despite government efforts to block the march to Islamabad. The former prime minister, currently incarcerated, had called for a demonstration to defend democracy and the judiciary, with his supporters expected to gather in the federal capital.
However, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has criticized the protest, labeling it an attempt at “insurrection,” alleging that PTI seeks to take control of Islamabad.
Court Restrictions and Government Response
The PTI faced a setback on November 22 when the Islamabad High Court ruled against any protests or rallies that violated the recently imposed law on public gatherings, particularly over the weekend due to Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko’s visit. The government has also increased security measures in Islamabad, calling in additional troops to maintain order and prevent any disturbances.
Gohar Ali Khan’s Comments on Protest Plans
In a recent appearance on Geo News’s Naya Pakistan show, Gohar Ali Khan emphasized that the final decision on whether to go ahead with the protest rests solely with Imran Khan. “Khan sahib is Khan sahib. He is the boss,” said Gohar, adding that the PTI leadership must follow Khan’s orders without question. He clarified that the political committee is only tasked with offering recommendations and that the PTI leadership cannot alter decisions made by the party founder.
Internal PTI Discussions Amidst Government Pressure
Amid the government’s growing pressure, PTI leaders, including former President Arif Alvi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, attempted to reach out to Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, ahead of a key deadline set by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. However, they were unable to make contact with her, sparking a series of internal party discussions scheduled for later in the evening.
According to sources, PTI is in consultation with former first lady Bushra Bibi and is awaiting a final decision on the protest plan. Gohar informed that discussions with Interior Minister Naqvi are ongoing, but a final response has not yet been communicated.
Government’s Stance on Protest and Security Concerns
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Naqvi reiterated that the government is firm in its stance against the planned protests, warning that anyone attempting to disrupt Islamabad’s peace would face serious consequences. He stated that the use of tear gas and arrests are being considered to prevent any unrest.
Naqvi also noted that the arrival of the Belarusian delegation on November 24, followed by President Lukashenko’s visit from November 25 to 27, is a critical diplomatic event that requires maintaining public order in Islamabad. The Interior Ministry emphasized that no protests or rallies will be allowed during this time.
PTI’s Response and Future Strategy
As the deadline approaches, PTI leaders remain divided, with Gohar Ali Khan pledging to make a final decision after further consultations. Meanwhile, PTI’s political opponents, including PML-N leader Talal Chaudhry, have sharply criticized Imran Khan and his party, accusing them of creating instability in the country. Chaudhry also took issue with recent comments made by Bushra Bibi, suggesting they were aimed at targeting friendly nations.
With political tensions escalating, all eyes are on Imran Khan’s final decision regarding the November 24 protest and whether it will proceed as planned or face further delays due to ongoing legal and security challenges.
