How to detect spyware in mobile phone

Web Desk — Are you being spied on? Is your mobile phone under observation? Everybody wants answers to these questions after a scandal unearthed that Israeli intelligence agencies were using spyware called Pegasus to hack the cellphones of journalists and activists worldwide.

We don’t but experts know how to find pegasus software in a mobile phone? Cybersecurity expert David Balaban writes in his article that famous anti-virus software can’t detect pegasus as the latter ruins the basic features of a phone’s operating system.

Amnesty Internation has made software designed to track pegasus. This software is called Mobile Verification Toolkit (MVT) and its source code lies in GitHub. This software is available for both Android and Apple iOS. MVT copies the entire mobile phone data in the computer and checks whether the device has Pegasus or not?

According to a report published in The Washington Post, Israeli firm NSO Group’s Pegasus spyware, licensed to governments around the globe, can infect phones without a click.

“This is nasty software — like eloquently nasty,” said Timothy Summers, a former cybersecurity engineer at a U.S. intelligence agency and now director of IT at Arizona State University. With it “one could spy on almost the entire world population. … There’s not anything wrong with building technologies that allow you to collect data; it’s necessary sometimes. But humanity is not in a place where we can have that much power just accessible to anybody.”
